Kerry Logistics Network Limited is deepening its presence in the Middle East by setting up a new office in Bahrain and opening a new bonded logistics facility in Dubai, in order to extend its footprint and enhance its service capabilities as growth in the region gains momentum.
The new addition of Bahrain increases Kerry Logistics’ global network coverage to 55 countries and territories.
In Bahrain, the new office focuses on serving the automotive, oil & gas, fashion & lifestyle and electronics & technology verticals with air, ocean and road freight, customs clearance and warehousing services. It marks a significant step for Kerry Logistics to strengthen its foothold in the Gulf Cooperation Council (‘GCC’) region.
In Dubai, the new logistics facility commenced operation in December 2019 as a part of Kerry Logistics’ expansion plans in the Middle East. Located three kilometres from the Dubai Al Maktoum International Airport and 20 minutes from the Jebel Ali Port, the bonded facility has a total area of 70,000 sq ft, offering solutions to electronics & technology customers and e-commerce fulfilment services.

Geodis extends freight forwarding service with a new service hub in Spain

Global logistics provider’s Freight Forwarding Line of Business has established a new service hub for customers in the Andalusia and Extremadura regions of Spain. The office in Seville commenced business as of October 2022.
With well-established operations in other major Spanish cities including Barcelona, Bilbao, Madrid and Valencia the Group’s freight forwarding services have been available to the country’s importers and exporters for over twenty years. Now both maritime and air transport solutions will be offered in the south of Spain along with additional value-added services such as Control Tower for complete oversight, Purchase Order and Vendor Management and Emission Reporting. Enhanced visibility of cargoes status is enabled through the bespoke GEODIS’ web-based platform, IRIS (Intelligent Real-time Information System), an online booking, pricing, tracking and shipment system.
The GEODIS team in Seville will provide a service with a global reach across the GEODIS Group’s network spanning nearly 170 countries.

DHL Global Forwarding and GoodShipping accelerate sustainable shipping

DHL Global Forwarding, the air and ocean freight specialist of Deutsche Post DHL Group, and GoodShipping, the global pioneer and market leader in insetting to decarbonize the container shipping industry by changing the marine fuel mix, are further expanding their long-standing partnership. With the latest purchase of approximately 60 million liters of Sustainable Marine Fuel, DHL will reduce a total of 180,000 tonnes of TtW-CO2e on both FCL and LCL shipping until 2024. This commitment is equivalent to the amount of marine fuel burned by 10 container vessels on their journey from Asia to Europe. DHL Global Forwarding has been working with GoodShipping for five years, sharing the same aspiration for greener ocean freight via insetting.

An important lever in reducing our CO2 emissions is the use of sustainable fuel and GoodShipping’s insetting service complements us perfectly in this regard. As part of their joint industry impact, DHL Global Forwarding and GoodShipping also aim to pilot a new insetting accounting framework of the Smart Freight Centre. The new framework transfers the approach of allocating emission reductions from sustainable fuels to specific customers by decoupling the accounting of the fuels’ environmental attributes from their physical flow to a general industry standard. In that way, customers can contribute to and report on emission reductions in their transport value chain even if the reduction is not physically linked to their specific transport activity.

DHL’s GoGreen Plus service paves the way to transition to clean and sustainable transportation. As part of GoGreen Plus, customers across the different divisions of Deutsche Post DHL Group are offered various solutions for minimizing logistics-related emissions and other environmental impacts along the entire supply chain, such as the use of Sustainable Fuels. Hereby a calculation is made using international agreed standards how much fossil volume the cargo owner would have used without any insetting service. Subsequently this corresponding volume is replaced by truly sustainable biofuels made out of waste and residues only. With the “Book & Claim” mechanism, DHL can pass on the benefits of lower greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 3 emissions) to its customers, helping them achieve their climate targets. The product offering GoGreen Plus is part of the Group’s mid-term sustainability roadmap for 2030 and contributes to the sub-target of having at least 30 percent of fuel requirements covered by sustainable fuels. To reduce greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Paris Climate Agreement, the Group will spend €7 billion in sustainable fuels and technologies by 2030.
DHL Freight opens new logistics terminal in Marseille

DHL Freight, one of the leading providers of road transport services in Europe, opens a new logistics terminal in Marseille. The inauguration of this new site marks the next step in the modernization and expansion of DHL Freight’s road logistics network in Southern France and the Mediterranean region and will be an important gateway for transports to and from Tunisia.

In light of increasing demand for our services, it is of utmost importance that we do everything to offer sustainable, efficient, and reliable logistics solutions to our customers. We subscribe to successful and sustainable business practices. This new site near Marseille will allow us to continue to do exactly that,” says Uwe Brinks, CEO DHL Freight.
The new terminal boasts a cross-deck area of 3,204m2 with 35 gates, on a total space of 3,632m2. The increased logistics capacities allow for quicker and more efficient road transportation, thereby increasing the reliability of shipments and customer satisfaction. For example, the terminal will offer the consolidation and deconsolidation of Less-than-Truckload shipments, which the DHL network will then distribute customers in the European market. Connecting the continents of Europe and Africa, the terminal in Marseille will also use its capacities to become an important gateway to and from Tunisia.
Focused on sustainable operations and compliance with the climate energy bill, DHL Freight ensured that solar panels would cover at least 30 % of the roof surface. In addition, DHL Freight recently introduced the GoGreen Plus service to reduce CO2 emissions for road transport. Following the carbon insetting approach, DHL Freight is decarbonizing its European road freight network by investing in low- and zero emission technologies such as electric vehicles and alternative fuels, be it biogas or hydrotreated vegetable oil, for its linehaul as well as pickup- and delivery services. This new service is of course also available for customers in Marseille and throughout France.

Other solutions implemented at the Marseille terminal to minimize the impact on the environment include for example the use of LED sensor lights and the operation of a sophisticated waste sorting and recycling system. Even beehives have found a new home on the terminal’s grounds. These steps are in accordance with Deutsche Post DHL Group’s commitment to providing sustainable logistic solutions that will reduce emissions to net zero by 2050.
