EUROGATE Intermodal (EGIM) further optimizes the transport logistics within the congested port of Hamburg. The Hamburg-based service provider for international container transport in combined transport by road and rail has published a revised version of its TRoad application.
The app, which was presented for the first time in March 2015, simplifies the route planning for local traffic in and around the Port of Hamburg, taking into account the current market needs, in particular with regard to the slot booking procedure. Via push message, the app communicates directly with the driver’s smartphone and assigns them trips.
The update of TRoad, which EGIM has developed together with the Department HITeC (Hamburger Informatik Technologie Center eV) of the University of Hamburg, facilitates the disposition and control of truck transports considerably.
Until the first introduction of TRoad, drivers had to rely on the port radio and possibly accept empty runs to pick up the papers for their next tour in the dispatch office. Now, with the new TRoad, an automated algorithm calculates the most efficient transport solution for the respective order.
This is done on the basis of the past journeys and the current traffic situation, so that the most suitable driver with regard to temporal, local and organizational aspects (eg dangerous goods transport, driver qualifications) is determined among all affiliated companies.
The availability and necessary change of chassis are also taken into account. This allows EGIM to make optimum use of the slot booking process at the Port of Hamburg and at the same time contributes to increasing the efficiency of this system.
Each driver is self-sufficient on the road and schedulers are also optimized for dispatchers. The elimination of waiting times leads to a significantly improved transport flow for all parties involved.
As a result, EGIM increases the volume of its transports. In addition, the EGIM dispatchers are always informed about the current location of individual containers. A leaner fleet management monitors the inventory and current status of their own chassis.
Initially, TRoad was developed to optimize internal processes at EGIM. Due to the high potential for increasing the efficiency of transport processes, the application is now also available to third parties via EGIM’s IT department.
In addition, customers have the option of integrating their data flows directly into the EGIM system via digital interfaces. Through this solution, all parties increase their performance.
Lars Hedderich, Managing Director EGIM, explains: ” With TRoad, we offer our partners a digital complete package that connects all transport processes and creates synergies. These more efficient processes are a win-win situation – for EGIM, freight forwarders and drivers. With the new TRoad, EGIM is once again cementing its position as the driver of digitalisation in combined transport . ”
