LogiNext, a delivery automation platform helping fast food restaurant chains manage their delivery services has announced the addition of McDonald’s Philippines to its 1-click Carrier Integration Marketplace. As part of this new partnership, McDonald’s last-mile delivery provider, GrabExpress will also be onboarded onto their platform.

This one-of-a-kind partnership will now enable McDonald’s to automatically send delivery orders placed via its McDelivery app and web portal to the GrabExpress platform, to be delivered via a GrabExpress delivery rider.

LogiNext’s Carrier Integration Marketplace is a single click, no-code solution for brands like McDonalds to seamlessly integrate their delivery operations with some of the top delivery and technology providers across industries like Food & Beverage, Courier & Parcel and Transportation.

“The Carrier Integration Marketplace is a huge thing because it’s a win-win for everyone. Brands get easy access to carriers of their choice, and carriers (which could be food aggregator apps, delivery networks etc) can monetize their capabilities better. We’re super excited about adding GrabExpress to our marketplace given their reach and salience. This will enable other LogiNext clients to also access GrabExpress last-mile delivery services. We’re scaling up the marketplace aggressively so that more and more brands can take advantage of it,” says Dhaval Thanki, VP of APAC & MEA at LogiNext.

With GrabExpress joining LogiNext’s 1-click Carrier Integration Marketplace, new and existing LogiNext clients can now easily integrate their delivery operations with GrabExpress’s last mile service through pre-built APIs. Overall, this partnership will enable McDonald’s to march ahead as a progressive tech-enabled brand and push the entire F&B industry towards increased efficiency so they can keep delivering a great end customer experience along with meeting business objectives.

Kuehne+Nagel enters into a binding agreement to acquire 100% of the shares in Salmosped AS. The Oslo-based company is a leading Norwegian perishables freight forwarder specialising in transportation of seafood products. It generated turnover of CHF 118 million in 2020 and handled approximately 63,000 tonnes of goods.

Today, Norway is one of the largest fishery and aquaculture producers in the world. Despite the pandemic, Norway’s fish exports remained strong, with attractive prospects for fisheries and marine aquaculture growth in light of its 21,000 km long coastline.

Over the years, Kuehne+Nagel has developed a global perishables logistics network with more than 70 stations worldwide that ensure that products reach end-consumers with an optimal shelf life and maximum freshness. Within the perishables segment, the bolt-on acquisition of Salmosped enhances Kuehne+Nagel’s global network in seafood as it complements existing operations in Halifax, Vancouver (both Canada), London (UK) and Santiago de Chile.

Dennis Verkooy, Senior Vice President Global Perishables & Head of Carrier Management Air Logistics at Kuehne+Nagel Management AG, says: “Perishables logistics is a strong growth driver for Kuehne+Nagel. While we have been present in the seafood business in Norway for years, today’s acquisition strengthens our footprint in air freight exports from this important seafood producing country. We are looking forward to enlarging our Norwegian team with Salmosped’s specialists.”

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including clearance by the competent merger control authorities.

As the global pandemic situation continues the demand for access to good quality food is on the rise and it’s a high priority to India. In a very recent official statement from the government, India ranks first within the number of organic farmers and ninth in terms of area under organic farming. Also Sikkim became the first state in the world to become fully organic and other states such as Tripura and Uttarakhand have similar goals.

With the aim of aiding farmers to adopt organic farming and improve remunerations, government had introduced two dedicated programs specifically Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCD) and Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY) were launched in 2015 to encourage organic farming. 

The major organic exports from India are flax seeds, sesame, soybean, tea, medicinal plants, rice and pulses, which were instrumental in driving an rise of nearly 50% in organic exports in 2018-19, touching Rs 5151 crore. 

Modest commencement of exports from Assam, Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland to UK, USA, Swaziland and Italy have proved the potential by increasing volumes and expanding to new destinations because the demand for health foods increases.

Both Mission Organic Value Chain Development and Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana are promoting certification under  Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) and National Program for Organic Production (NPOP) respectively targeting local and international markets. 

Before making a purchase a consumer should look for the logos of FSSAI, Jaivik Bharat / PGS Organic India on the produce to ascertain the organic authenticity of the product. This can be a very important element of an organic produce. 

Presently, the commodities with highest potential include ginger, turmeric, black rice, spices, nutri cereals, pineapples, medicinal plants, buckwheat, bamboo shoots, etc. Supplies of organic produce has started from the north eastern region including for Mother Dairy from Meghalaya, Revanta Foods and Big Basket from Manipur. 

The organic e-commerce platform www.jaivikkheti.in is being strengthened for directly linking farmers with retail as well as bulk buyers. Infusion of digital technology in a much bigger way has been a major takeaway during the pandemic period.

Indian organic farmers will soon be reinforcing the top place in the global agriculture trade.
